HelpAge Kenya is a non-govermental organisation committed to a policy of partnership, based on common visions, open dialogue and long term agreements. With more than twenty years of field experience, HelpAge Kenya has realized that there are no shortcuts to development. As an older persons development organization we can only hope to contribute to a suitable process of development with activities based on priorities and decisions taken by the people in partnership with HelpAge Kenya .

HelpAge Kenya 's target group are all older persons from the age of 60 and above in Kenya , with special reference to those that are marginalized in one-way or another.

All activities supported by HelpAge Kenya should ultimately benefit the poor and the disadvantaged older persons. HelpAge Kenya activities are planned and implemented with the regard to the following four objectives.

Development by people

Popular participation must be a tool in the process of planning and implementation as well as an objective.

Gender Orientation

A proper gender analysis must ensure that both men's and women's needs in the projects are taken into consideration. The activities must ensure equal opportunities for women.

Environments , Development and Health

Preserving and restoring a sustainable environment must be an integrated element in all activities aimed at improving health and the living conditions of the poor older persons.

Sustainability

Technical, economic and institutional sustainability must be considered right from the beginning of any activity.

HelpAge Kenya considers democracy and respect for human rights at all levels a precondition for a genuine and sustainable development. Educating the weak and the marginalized older persons on their rights and duties in a democratic society is integrated in HelpAge Kenya 's training programmes.
